A gentle word about why I'm choosing not to sign the circulating petition

on PO replacement/trees ("a setback"). There's a lot we don't know about

the proposed building, but one thing we DO know is that there are always

trade-offs. A trade-off for setback of the building to save two trees .

would in all probability mean repositioning the proposed building more to the middle of the block and cutting the green space out of the plan. Since this building is

indeed much larger than the old PO, this would affect the whole Savier side of the Vaux, which in the present plan had some chance of having a green view (at least partial) and enhancment of neighborhood liveability on the north side with the planned green space. The developer wants an office building of a certain size with a certain number of parking spaces. The only petition I could sign would have to include preserving the green space in the original plan. It's a nice thought to preserve two trees, but I hope we can consider the consequences

of a set-back for the project as a whole. There's a forecast of possible

modification of green space in the review notice. In my view, the Vaux

is minimally impacted if the building goes on close to 25th. This is a large building

and a large parking lot--much more to consider.
