New Supermarket On The Way
Updated: Sep 4, 2020
01/25/13 – Our Northwest neighborhood continues to change and grow. While the two new buildings on 23rd between Raleigh and Savier take shape, several others are in the works further east on Raleigh, notably a 28,000 square foot New Seasons market that will occupy a renovated warehouse on the Con-way property between 21st and 22nd. There it will anchor the planned Slabtown Marketplace, where an open plaza will separate it from a six-story, 110-unit apartment building to be erected on the same property. C.E. John Company, the developer, expects to break ground later this year.
Some concern has been expressed regarding the future health of the Food Front Cooperative Grocery beloved of many Vaux residents, but the substantial increase in population expected for our neighborhood may well mitigate any impact.
Of further interest – the developer feels that the Slabtown Marketplace is especially well-situated because Raleigh Street is destined for Portland Streetcar tracks!
