Being Green And Saving It Too

Updated: Sep 4, 2020

02/16/2013 – Beginning last week, an electrician has been busy converting corridor lighting @ The Vaux from compact fluorescents to LEDs. This is a significant development. There are 12 fixtures in each of 8 hallways here, 96 in all, and each fixture houses 2 bulbs. In sum, we must power 192 bulbs day and night, 365 days a year, to light our way through the halls.

Each outgoing compact fluorescent consumed 26 watts, whereas the LED replacement runs on just 9 — a difference of 17 watts per bulb. The result is a total (and permanent) saving of 3,264 watts of electricity. Our buildings are about to become a lot greener, and our Association will be saving a tidy sum of money as well — something on the order of $3,000 per year.
