A Tree Grows in Portland

01/25/13 – Not all the plants in and around The Vaux are healthy at any given moment. When they get into trouble, sometimes they recover, and sometimes they don't. Occasionally a big one fails, and the result is noticeable. In mid-December a maple tree on 24th Avenue was replaced. The outgoing specimen wasn't happy, and the Buildings & Grounds committee had been watching over it for more than a year. Although it was still producing leaves, they were few, and the bark on its trunk had split from root to branch.
